Fujifilm launches FinePix S200EXR Digital Camera in India

sivarama nityanandamurty     6:53 AM     No comments
Fujifilm India has announced the launch and availability of Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR a new digital camera model aimed at top-end enthusiasts looking for excellent picture quality without the expense of a DSLR system. Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR comes with 12 Megapixel Super CCD EXR sensor and Fujinon 14.3x Optical zoom lens.
Another exciting feature of the Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR is EXR Auto which takes the guesswork out of setting the camera by doing everything for you. EXR Auto is essentially a very sophisticated set of program modes. The camera can automatically detects from six different types of scenes - Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Backlit Portrait, Night, and Night Portrait.
The FinePix S200EXR offers five film simulation modes - the Velvia/Vivid mode for rich and luscious landscapes; the PROVIA/Standard mode for excellent, sharp, standard photography; the ASTIA/Soft mode for soft, fine, smooth tonality; the Black & White mode captures the dramatic honesty of your image in black and white; and the Sepia mode creates a sense of nostalgia with the warm brown “antique” tones of Sepia.
The EXR sensor automatically adjusts itself to optimum settings depending on the light. When the light is strong and even, the camera can be switched to HR (High Resolution) mode to ensure every small detail is captured. When light is strong but contrast, the sensor can switch to DR (Dynamic Range) mode to get the optimal balance between highlight and shadows. In low light the sensor will switch to SN (High Sensitivity and Low Noise) mode, to ensure clean noise-free pictures even in the darkest conditions. The ultra-high precision Fujinon lens achieves maximum resolution at all focal lengths of 30.5mm-436mm equivalent with maximum aperture of a bright F2.8 (wide angle) to F5.3 (telephoto). Because of the composite body and lens structure, there is no need to worry about dirt or dust on the Super CCD EXR sensor.
In the FinePix S200EXR, an identical effect, Pro Focus Mode, is created using new Multi-Frame Technology. A burst of 2 or 3 frames is taken, and by taking the distance information off, the main subject is crisply matted against a defocused foreground and background. Pro Focus Mode is perfect for portrait or nature photography. Meanwhile, Pro Low-light Mode is applied to solving the problems of noisy low light shots. Once switched to Pro Low-light Mode, the camera will take burst of 4 high sensitivity images using Pixel Fusion Technology in quick succession. Owing to the Multi Frame Technology, the first, second, third and fourth images are overlapped to create one image with extremely low noise.
Other features of the FUJIFILM FinePix S200EXR include the intelligent flash, high contrast 2.7 inch LCD that’s viewable even in bright light and at 160 degree angle, multi bracketing, dual image stabilization, face detection with automatic red-eye removal etc.
The Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR camera is available in India for an MRP of Rs. 32,999/-.

Corby S3650w = Lindy M5650?

sivarama nityanandamurty     5:38 AM     No comments
ust recently, it was announced that Samsung with be re-releasing the original Corby (known as Genio Touch in the UK) and will be adding the much needed WiFi functionality. Now, just a few days later, Samsung announces that they will be launching a new mobile phone that heavily resembles the S3650 but with added features –including WiFi. So far, Samsung has yet to confirm if the two devices really are connected (they probably are), but the general assumption is that the new Lindy M5650 is the reincarnation of the Genio Touch; considering the argument that it would be redundant to have the Lindy and a Wi-Fi capable version of the Genio anyway.

New in Lindy is the support for wireless LAN (WiFi). The lack of WiFi and 3G in the previous device made the functions of the phone very limited. Considering that the device has integrated web applications, the lack of connectivity options hurt the phone a lot. The update will now make accessing Facebook, Twitter and other integrated apps a whole lot easier.
The new phone will also have a 3 mega pixel camera and a 2.8 inch touch screen. The 3 mega pixel snapper is an improvement over the previous 2 mega pixel cam.
Hardware-wise, the Genio and the Lindy are identical, with a few physical differences. In size, the Lindy is 106 x 57 x 12 mm big, hardly any different from the Genio. The weight of the two devices is only 8 grams apart.
The only drawback about the new Lindy is that the phone has not yet been announced for the UK so we do not know yet if it will ever make it here. So far, the device is only available in Portugal and it has a retail price of approximately 220 US Dollars.

The pencil-thin Laptop PC

sivarama nityanandamurty     4:07 AM     No comments

Last spring Dell set the computing industry abuzz with the introduction of its Adamo brand, and along with it the world’s thinnest laptopPC. Today, the world meets a new champion of thin: The Dell™ Adamo XPS™, measuring 9.99mm or just four-tenths of an inch. Both laptops set new standards for craftsmanship, design and engineering excellence.
Adamo XPS is a stunning laptop whose design provides a unique experience. With the swipe of a finger, the keyboard appears from under the display as the system is open. The feature set challenged engineers to build the latest technology into a compact space, including:

  • 4GB DDR3 RAM ;
  • Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 (1.4Ghz) ultra-low voltage processor;
  • Thin 128GB SSD for faster, cooler, quieter and more durable storage than traditional hard drives;
  • A13.4-inch high-definition display.

The attention to detail is apparent in the black, jewelry box-like packaging that is as striking as the laptop itself. A tug on a cloth loop reveals the Adamo XPS and assorted accessories that accompany the system. The Adamo XPS was recently recognized as the hottest Windows 7 product by leading technology analyst Rob Enderle with Digital Trends.

Adamo, derived from the Latin word meaning “to fall in love,” is a flagship in a line of products created to disrupt the personal computing space with the combination of new design aesthetics, personalization choices and sought-after technologies. The Adamo by Dell brand was launched last March with the first Adamo laptop, which combined high-performance technologies in a finely-machined aluminum case only .65-inch thick.

The pencil-thin Adamo XPS weighs just over 3 pounds and measures 13.39 x 10.71 inches. Dell expects to begin taking orders and shipping the Adamo XPS with Microsoft® Windows® 7 pre-installed in time for the holidays. The Adamo XPS is priced starting at Rs 1,50,000.

Features:-

  • Adamo XPS is the thinnest laptop PC ever, at about 0.4-inch thin.
  • When opened, the body of the Adamo XPS is raised so the keyboard is angled to enhance cooling.
  • Capacitive latching device – one finger swipe opens the latch.
  • Replaceable battery
  • Full size keyboard with aluminum keycaps; touchpad with gestures.
  • Built-in 802.11n wireless.
  • High Definition (720p) 13.4-inch WLED display.

Enablence Develops New Optical Connection Technology for PCs

sivarama nityanandamurty     6:46 AM     No comments
Enablence Technologies Inc., will be working with Intel (News - Alert) and other companies for developing a new optical connection technology for personal computers.

The company is a supplier of fiber-to-the-home, or “FTTH,” equipment for triple-play residential and business services and optical components and sub systems for access, metro and long-haul markets.

Intel recently launched its Light Peak during the Intel Developer Forum. Light Peak is a 10 Gigabit per second optical interconnect for PCs that will be built using photodiodes including Enablence’s large area dual wavelength 10 Gbps photodiodes, said company sources. More details regarding Enablence’s dual wavelength 10 Gbps photodiode can be obtained from the company Web site.

Jason Ziller, director, Optical I/O Program Office, Intel Corp., said that the company is pleased to be working with Enablence to make Light Peak optical components ready to ship in 2010.

“Light Peak has high bandwidth and the ability to run multiple I/O protocols over a single fiber cable, enabling the technology to connect to many devices such as displays, disk drives, peripherals, and docking stations on a single fiber cable,” Ziller said.

Company officials said that Intel’s Light Peak platform is designed to deliver high bandwidth of up to 10 Gbps, with the potential to grow to 100 Gbps soon.
Arvind Chhatbar, CEO of Enablence said that he was pleased to work with Intel in the creation of a new generation of optical interconnects for consumer applications leveraging Enablence’s technology capabilities in this new area of application.

Canada-based Enablence’s Systems Division is focusing on expanding its fiber-to-the-premise or FTTP product portfolio which features several architectural options. Service providers will be able to evolve their access networks from traditional copper-based networks to advanced optical communications access networks based on IP and Ethernet standards. This will enable triple-play voice, video and data services including HDTV, IP Telephony and ultrafast internet access, company officials said.

The company’s optical Components and Subsystems employs the Planar Lightwave Circuit or PLC technology which can integrate multiple components into a single optical chip to bring down size and costs. Network and equipment designers use Enablence products in their transceivers, splitters, waveguides, optical channel monitors, multiplexers, ROADMs, switches, tunable dispersion compensators, and photodiodes.
